“Someone came and stole me from this life I’d never lead”
Darkness can bring out the worst in you, bring to life those monsters you kept hidden so well. As human beings, we often neglect to acknowledge that we are the sum of two halves. One that we present to the world, our more confident and curious self, and the other we keep hidden, the insecure and reserved character that lives in lands unexplored.
This song is a journey through the darkness that lies within, to brave the dangers of the dark unlit forests within our own conscience. Being forced into a period of isolation has meant that many of us face sleepless nights wondering whether we’ve achieved the things we’ve set out for, and whether we’re worthy of the lives we lead. A thought I’ve faced many times over my time as an artist, and as a human being.
In the end all we want is a sense of comfort, to feel protected and safe in the arms of the ones we love the most, to feel brave on your own.
I know I’m terrified of my own darkness. I know that in the past it has consumed me whole, left me immobile, and lacking. It has judged and criticized every fiber of my being. Yet I venture into it every day, because I know that the only way out, is through.
We often think that the Darkness within us what prevents us from making things as good as they used to be.
This moment, right now, you, today, don’t try and aim to be the greatest you ever were. You aren’t anywhere close to being the best you can be, and that is an amazing thing. That is why we push on, that is why we follow our dreams, why we have ambitions.
Use that fire, and shine your light where it hurts most, and one day, it won’t hurt anymore. And that’s why when I look at this picture, it reminds me that darkness doesn’t last forever.
lyrics
Dark
Verse 1
Remind me to focus
Falling in Trees
We’re past our prime
And now it’s time to leave
Somebody woke you
Committing felonies
Arrest the soul that
Doesn’t want to leave
Where am I going?
I’m blind, can’t you see
My fears are on my sleeve
Pre-chorus
I’m so lonely
And so Scared
All the Times I begged to listen
To all the thoughts in your head
But why hurry?
There’s nothing to end
Tell me how did we get so far?
tell me how did it get so
Chorus
Dark
It’s written in the air
Given consolation
There’s water in my hair
How am I suffocating?
There’s nothing left to breathe
Someone came and stole me from
This life I’d never lead
Verse 2
Who were you when you were just a child
I thought I would fly things
But Obviously they lied
Citing reasons never seen or never known
Who were they to tell you
They’re already old
Bridge
Tell me how did we get so far
Tell me how did it get so dark
Chorus
